two weekends ago, my family did something REALLY out of the ordinary (we typical stay within the guidelines of strict schedules with no wavering off into spontaneity). BUT, a few months ago my sister, whitney, emailed all of the siblings and suggested that we all fly to ohio and surprise my dad for his 60th birthday!
after months of anticipation the big day had arrived! all of us came into town friday morning/afternoon and we started scheming about how we would surprise him when he returned home from work. i literally could not sleep the night prior because of the surprise anxiety i was feeling. anyways, my mom ended up stalling him in the laundry room so we could all gather in the kitchen. his first reaction was confusion, then laughter, then hugs.
the birthday celebration continued with a bbq and presents. for presents we decided to buy a small item that represented a memory that we had of dad. after presents we celebrated with cake, ice cream, and playing cards. other activities from the weekend included, bowling (a lewis classic), ice cream at country maid (my little sister's place of employment) and sister photo shoots. we also asked my dad if we could get a picture of him with his buffalo head that he found in northern wyoming (near where he grew up), he was elated, "no one has ever wanted a picture of me and my buffalo head!!!!"
love you, dad! you are still a young buck to me!
***with no fun surprise or trip on the horizon, kraig and i have tried to spice things up by debating whether to get a dog or not (thoughts?).
Let's get a dog! Love your post!
ReplyDeleteSurprised are simply the best! (Especially when chocolate cake is involved!) This looks like a lovely birthday celebration. :)
